Kislingbury bowls club served up a welcoming hot and tasty 3 course meal after todays game against Northamptonshire VPBA and after last weeks vegetarian delights it was good to have meat back on the menu.

Thankfully the weather showed some improvement to the last few days and the green performed well, considering the soaking it had received in the last week.

Our hosts borrowed Ian Hale's wife Mavis to cover for a missing member of their side and from comments made by their acting chairman after the dinner, she played a major part in helping them to their rink win.

Not to be outdone by his wife's efforts, Ian led on Oxfordshire's highest winning rink, followed by Gerald Fountain, Alan Rowe and skip Mike Andrew.

County President Mick Morris came a close second with a ten shot win followed by Chris Weller's foursome who picked up 9 shots over the last three ends of their close tussle (14 all after 18).

Chairman Chris Cox's rink just lost out by two shots from being all square 13-13 after 18 ends.

Alan Wase' final Oxfordshire rink were always chasing their opponents and got to within two shots of them with a four on the sixteenth end. A dropped five on the eighteenth saw their rally falter, losing out by eight at the end.

Rink scores were:

Ian Hale, Gerald Fountain, Alan Rowe, Mike Andrew 22-11

Paul McGrath, John Stephens, Alex Fleming, Mike Morris 22-12

Bill Jarvie, Bob Foster, Ian Whelpton, Chris Weller 23-14

Doug Woodward, Dennis Roberts, Brian Ray, Chris Cox 16-18

Allan Hunt, Ron Havad, John Hurren, Alan Wase 17-25

A well balanced final scoreline of 100-80

The next game is a home game against Swindon & District BA at Kidlington BC on Sunday August 30th.
