Our 2022 outdoor programme started with our annual fixture against Gloucestershire Vice Presidents which was played at Frampton-on-Severn BC. The venue was originally booked for the 2020 fixture but due to the health pandemic this was the first opportunity to experience the club and its green.

On a damp day, it was the start of the bowling season, it was decided to limit the game to eighteen ends.

The green appears to have been to our favour with four of our five rinks recording a win with two of them battliing it out for the top rink with one shot separating them at the finish.

Bill Pointer, Brian Ray, Percy Hickman and David Lattimore, 1-8 down after five ends, picked up two 6's on their way to their top rink score of 30-6.

One difference behind them with a 26-9 win was the rink of Bill Jarvie, John Stephens, Tim Cox and Bernie May who won 12 of their eighteen ends.

The other two winning rinks were John Dunne, Robeta Jarvie, Ian Whelpton and Michael Morris, who won 22-13 after being 16-4 in front at after ten ends, and Chairman Allan Hunt, Roger Oliver, John McGeough and Michael Andrew who from 6-7 down at the halfway stage picked up a brace of four's on their way to their 19-12 win.

Our final rink of Bob Foster, Pat Ray, Nigel Satchell and Paul McGrath shared the number of ends won and were unlucky to lose by two shots at 12-14.

The club put on a welcomed after-match buffet and we had started the season in the right manner with a 109-60 win.

We entertained Bucks County Vice Presidents at Banbury Chestnuts in our second match with sun on our backs and again produced a four rinks to one winning scoreline. The unfortunate foursome this time were Gerald Fountain, Roger Oliver, Alex Fleming and playing at the oposite end of the four to usual, skip Bernie May. After leading 4-2 at five ends, they were always chasing the game, finally losing 17-23.

Bill Jarvie, Tim Cox. Alan Rowe and Michael Morris collected a four on the sixth end, which proved to be the difference in their close fought game which they won 18-14.

Two shots better off with a six shot 20-14 win was the rink of Ian Hale, John McGeough, Ian Whelpton and Chris Weller who won 13 of the their 21 ends.

Roy Radband, Bob Foster, Brain Clarke and Michael Andrew won two thirds of their ends, picking up a triple of 3's and a four on the way to a 27-14 win.

After starting his season with  a winning rink and team victory, Chairman Allan Hunt followed it by taking the top rink, leading for Brian Ray, Nigel Satchell and skip Paul McGrath. The foursome took thirteen of the twenty one ends, picking up a six on the way to the seventeen shot 30-13 win.

Once again the Chestnuts club provided us with their usual first class hospitality, a first class green, aftermatch hot meal and a well stocked bar.

Our thanks go to the club members who provide all this.
